Issues

NY/NJ Baykeeper is the citizen guardian of the Hudson-Raritan Estuary. Since 1990, we've worked to protect, preserve, and restore the environment of the most urban estuary on Earth - benefiting natural and human communities.

Some issues important to Baykeeper and to the health of the Estuary include:

  • Pollution
  • Public Access
  • Estuary Conservation
  • Dredging of Harbor Ship Channels
  • Appropriate vs. Inappropriate Estuary / Watershed Development
  • Education and Community Outreach
  • Long Term Estuary Planning

We advocate for the environment through community partnerships, by providing technical assistance to grassroots groups, by working with NJ and NY state and federal regulatory agencies, by offering input at meetings and in work sessions, by working for new legislation, and - as a last resort - through litigation.
