Eat Ice Cream and Support Baykeeper. Sweet!

Posted 05/09/2008

Petaluma, California (May 7, 2008) — In recognition of May as Watershed Awareness Month in California, Laloo's® Goat's Milk Ice Cream announced today its charity partnership to help raise awareness and funds for Waterkeeper® Alliance. Together, Laloo’s and Waterkeeper Alliance launched cleanFARMcleanWATER to educate consumers on ways to promote watershed protection in America.

Specially marked pints of Laloo’s featuring the blue and white Waterkeeper Alliance logo and the www.cleanFARMcleanWATER.org
website will be available at Whole Foods Markets and other specialty grocers in the top three Waterkeeper Alliance cities and surrounding areas beginning in May. Laloo’s will donate 25 percent of proceeds from sales of these specially marked pints to Waterkeeper Alliance and its local keeper programs: New York/New Jersey Baykeeper®; Santa Monica Baykeeper® in Los Angeles; and San Francisco Baykeeper® throughout the summer, including National Ice Cream Month in July, while supplies last.

Factory farming threatens waterways in many parts of the U.S. Laloo’s operates a small family farm and is in a unique position to educate suppliers about responsible farming practices that can be employed to preserve natural ecosystems. The goat milk industry is exploding as more and more consumers discover its many health benefits (visit the American Dairy Goat Association to learn more). Such rapid growth can sometimes bring business decisions that put the environment in the back seat. Laloo’s aims to help shape an emerging industry with protocols that serve nature, and the health of consumers, first.

“Laloo’s believes that clean farms help keep our precious water resources clean and safe,“ said Laloo’s Founder, Laura Howard. “Our partnership with Waterkeeer Alliance supports our ongoing commitment to active environmental stewardship.”

The Clean Farm Clean Water initiative announced by Laloo’s in partnership with the Waterkeeper Alliance will use both litigation and education to stop irresponsible industrial dairy and meat factory practices that severely threaten U.S. waterways and communities.

“We are fortunate to have Laloo’s support as we work to educate and increase awareness about ways to promote watershed protection in the U.S.,” said Steve Fleischli, President, Waterkeeper Alliance.

About Waterkeeper Alliance Waterkeeper Alliance is the most effective advocate for clean water because we act locally and organize globally.
