Clean Stormwater and Flood Reduction Act

We applaud New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy for signing the Clean Stormwater and Flood Reduction Act into law! Many thanks to the bill’s primary sponsors including Senator Bob Smith, Senator Christopher Bateman, Assemblyman John McKeon and Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin!

Towns and counties will now have the power to impose fees on property owners to pay for upgrades to antiquated stormwater systems based on how much they contribute to runoff.

Stormwater utilities fees can be a huge benefit to reducing stormwater issues and impact, particularly when partnered with smart development and community-based efforts like rain gardens and barrels, reducing impervious surfaces, and adding green space with parks or bioswales and other green technologies. This is a major step forward for New Jersey!
