Welcome Oyster Babies!

Our oyster babies (larvae) have arrived! While it may look like a handful of mud, about 3.5 MILLION little oysters are pictured! Our babies will get nice and cozy in our aquaculture tanks at Naval Weapons Station Earle for the next 3-4 weeks. They’ll attach themselves to our oyster castles and hockey sticks.

From there, we’ll move them to our living shoreline at Earle and distribute them to our hockey stick garden sites throughout the Estuary where we’ll facilitate their growth over the season.

We’ve also set fish traps to see which critters are near our living shoreline. Biodiversity is a clear indicator of a healthy ecosystem. Stay tuned for what we find!
