The NY-NJ Harbor Estuary, also known as the Hudson-Raritan Estuary, is a system of waterways and habitats that form one of the most intricate natural harbors in the world. Since 1989, NY/NJ Baykeeper has worked to protect, preserve and restore the environment of the most urban estuary on Earth.

An award-winning journalist, Elana comes to Baykeeper with extensive experience covering environmental issues throughout New Jersey. During her years as an investigative reporter, Elana challenged the status quo and took on tough issues, including racial and gender discrimination, housing justice, sexual harassment, income inequality and political corruption.
Elana is the recipient of several New Jersey Press Association awards, as well as the Garden State Journalists Association Award. Her stories have appeared in Politico’s Playbook and the Center for Cooperative Media, among other media outlets. She graduated from Rutgers University and has lectured there on several occasions. Elana’s passions include activism, politics, the Jersey Shore, animals, great books and old movies.
