The NY-NJ Harbor Estuary, also known as the Hudson-Raritan Estuary, is a system of waterways and habitats that form one of the most intricate natural harbors in the world. Since 1989, NY/NJ Baykeeper has worked to protect, preserve and restore the environment of the most urban estuary on Earth.

We hold several beach and natural area cleanups throughout the year! Get outside in the fresh air and join a great group of volunteers as we clean up our beautiful shorelines, parks and natural areas. It’s always a great day!
Gloves and garbage bags are always provided.
Always dress for the weather and be prepared to get muddy!
Strong winds and rain will cancel the event.

Oyster Monitoring at Soundview Park
Want to get your hands wet? Come out for some cool fieldwork at our oyster reef in Soundview Park in the Bronx! Get up close and personal with oysters, fish and other marine animals!

Upcoming Soundview Monitoring Dates
RSVP for our monitoring sessions on June 24 (6am) or June 25 (6am).
Each monitoring session lasts approximately 3 hours. Bring some water, sun protection, a facemask (we may get within close contact as we monitor), and get ready to get wet and muddy with some oysters!

Each monitoring trip lasts approximately 3 hours. We will meet at the park entrance located at the corner of O’Brien Ave and Leland Ave, Soundview, Bronx NY 10473 (For GPS purposes, you can use the address of 311 Leland Ave, Bronx, NY 10473). For those of you taking public transportation, the Bx 27 or Bx 39 buses will put you within walking distance (the subway is a further walk). Bring with you water, sunscreen, a hat, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will provide everything else!
Love kayaking and getting out on the water? Then join us for one of several kayaking events throughout the season. We are in need of volunteers to assist at the kayaking site, answer questions, etc. It’s always a great day out on the water!
NY/NJ Baykeeper operates the Baykeeper boat out on Raritan Bay for a variety of tours and trips. If you have experience with boats, we’d love to hear from you!
Love boats and people? Do you have local knowledge of the Raritan Bayshore area? We are looking for tour guides to help guide our many boat tours throughout our season!
